HØJ Elite presents new head coach for the men's side

The past few days have been spent working intensely to find a replacement for former head coach Stian Tønnesen, who left HØJ Elite last Thursday. Now the club can announce that Anders Thomsen will be the one to carry the baton for the rest of the season.
Anders Thomsen most recently comes from a position as head coach for Ribe-Esbjerg's men's team, and according to Lars Vinther, CEO of HØJ Elite, he has exactly the experience the players need right now:
"Anders has great expertise in taking on tasks that match the situation we're in right now. He also took over mid-season at Ribe-Esbjerg and did so with great success. On top of that, Anders brings plenty of commitment, high energy and a clarity that the players and the staff need. At the same time, he knows the conditions in the Danish men's league and can immediately focus the sporting efforts so they reflect the challenges we face for the rest of the season," says Lars Vinther, and continues:
"It's important for us to emphasise that our goal for this season is to establish ourselves in the league. We look at the season as a whole and want to get the team back on the right track, so we're well equipped for the final matches of the season. The players, of course, also carry a great deal of responsibility for bringing the right attitude, and it's our clear impression that the will is there."
For now, Anders Thomsen is appointed head coach at HØJ Elite through the end of the 2025-2026 season. His first task comes on Wednesday, when the league men face Skjern Håndbold away. In addition to his coaching work at Ribe-Esbjerg, Anders Thomsen has previously held the head coach role at Lemvig-Thyborøn and Mors-Thy in Herreligaen. He also holds an EHF Master Coach licence and has several years of experience in talent development in Danish handball.
In parallel, HØJ Elite is beginning the process of finding a coaching setup from next season onwards.
