HØJ Elite – Ikast Håndbold 29-38 (12-16)

There were both good and less good spells along the way when the Champions League participants and newly crowned Final4 bronze medallists from Ikast Håndbold visited Ølstykke-Hallen on Wednesday evening.

And although the team from central Jutland could head back home with a comfortable win in the bag, there was a clear improvement in our play to be seen compared with Saturday's home game against Viborg HK.

Good energy, attractive and entertaining handball in spells, plus a strong fighting spirit, were all things we can take with us into the important key matches coming up.

The lightning-quick Clara Kvisgaard delivered her best performance in the league so far this season and was deservedly named player of the match.

Sørine Wolf also put in an excellent shift in goal and was a big reason why we were right in it through the first third of the second half at 17-18.

Marita Mortensen once again showed what a formidable breakthrough player she is, with pace, will and determination in every single attack. A great effort from our Faroese international.

Head coach Kristian Kristensen shared his take on the game.

"We're actually pretty pleased with large parts of how the game went. The start was obviously poor, but the morale and our 7-6 play generally looked good when things were at their darkest. We also managed in spells to take the pace out of the Ikast attack with varying height on our backs. But as expected there was a gap in quality, and the Ikast team showed that over the full 2 x 30 minutes."

Top scorer for HØJ Elite was Clara Kvisgaard with 6 goals, while Marita Mortensen followed right behind with 5.

The next exciting test for the league women is Saturday 17 January at 1:30 PM in Skansen in Nørresundby, where we face EH Aalborg in a battle for vital points.
