Parent club HØJ Håndbold and professional side HØJ Elite are now launching a new talent programme for the club's youth players. Among other things, the young talents will be coached by league players from HØJ Elite.
The talents of the future are to be developed in the Ølstykke halls. That's the clear strategy HØJ Håndbold and HØJ Elite have set out with their new offering, 'HØJ's talent programme'.
Here, youth players on both the boys' and girls' side get the chance to take their development to the next level – not least through regular themed training sessions led by HØJ Elite's Danish and international handball stars and the club's professional coaches.
That's the explanation from Helle Rasmussen, chairperson of HØJ Elite and HØJ Håndbold.
"We know that having role models is absolutely crucial to young players' development. And we have some of handball's big names at HØJ Elite, while at the same time having a large youth department at HØJ. So it makes perfect sense to strengthen the cooperation between the club and the elite set-up, so the experienced players can pass on their knowledge and inspire the young talents through training, supervision and sparring," says Helle Rasmussen.
The place where young talents get the best opportunities
"The goal is for HØJ to be the place where young talents get the best opportunities to grow. Our ambition is to lift the quality across the whole club and for every player – from the youngest to the oldest. At the same time, we want to motivate and identify the youth players who dream of taking their handball to the next level – and develop them to get there through the talent programme," says Helle Rasmussen.
The talent programme features weekly training sessions on different themes, led by profiles from both the women's and men's league teams together with the club's dedicated talent coaches. The themed sessions are open to all the club's youth players from U15 and up, while other parts of the talent programme will be aimed at the most ambitious, eager and talented players.
Here, selected players will get access to individualised development plans built around the player's physique, technique, tactical understanding and mental development. The training volume and level will be tailored individually, and the players will, among other things, get the chance to play with older age groups in order to challenge themselves at varying levels. Each individual player will also get access to nutrition and sleep guidance, as well as training in how to use the so-called XPS Sideline, where you can do things like access video analysis of your own game, structure your training week and log relevant data.
"At HØJ we're driven by development and by constantly getting better. That's why this project is a very natural step for us – and why we're also really excited, because we believe it will be hugely interesting for a lot of young people. At the same time, of course, for HØJ it's also about our hope that, in the long run, we can help develop even more elite players for the top divisions ourselves – including for our league teams," says Helle Rasmussen.
