Lasse Andersson signs with HØJ Elite: 'A unique opportunity'

HØJ Elite and Lasse Andersson have reached an agreement that brings the strong Danish international to the club from next season.
The 32-year-old back court player is thereby sticking to his decision to join HØJ Elite, even though the season just gone ended in an unexpected relegation from the league.
The big ambitions and exciting prospects at HØJ Elite mean that Lasse Andersson remains convinced that moving back to Danish handball and HØJ Elite is exactly the right thing to do after ten years abroad.
"I see it as a unique opportunity to help build a top team on Zealand. That's missing right now – and I want to be part of creating it. Since the relegation, I've had plenty of good conversations with Hans Lindberg (director of sport, ed.) and the rest of the leadership at HØJ Elite, and it has only confirmed to me that continuing my career here is exactly right for me," says Lasse Andersson, adding:
"It's an incredibly exciting project and a club built on a special foundation with some strong values. And the ambitions for the future are intact, even though we'll be playing in the 1st division next year. I'm looking forward to coming home to Denmark with my family, and as a handball player I'm looking forward to the new challenges and the big responsibility that lie ahead. I'm sure HØJ Elite has an exciting future in store – and I can't wait to be part of it."
One of the best in the world
The arrival of Lasse Andersson, who boasts several Olympic, World Championship and European Championship gold medals on his CV, is a major coup for HØJ Elite, and director of sport Hans Lindberg is delighted with the good dialogue the parties have had in recent weeks – and not least the back court player's decision.
"Lasse Andersson's handball qualities speak for themselves. He's a fantastically talented player – one of the best in the world in his position. It's huge for HØJ Elite that, despite a relegation, we can put Lasse on the team sheet next season. In our recent talks with Lasse it has been clear that he really believes in our project and wants to come home and make a difference – and hopefully help shift the geographical balance of power at the top of Danish handball a little," says Hans Lindberg, continuing:
"We're fully aware that Lasse has received plenty of impressive offers from big clubs in recent weeks since we were relegated, and it says a lot about his dedication that he still chooses to become part of the HØJ family. We're incredibly happy and proud of that, and we can't wait to see him on the court next season. We naturally have a big role in mind for him and we're sure he'll lift our entire club," says Hans Lindberg.
Lasse Andersson joins HØJ Elite from Füchse Berlin, where he has played since 2020. Previously, he has played for clubs such as FC Barcelona and KIF Kolding København.
On top of that, Lasse Andersson has made 102 international appearances for Denmark and helped win gold at the Olympics, World Championship and European Championship.
