Odense Håndbold – HØJ Elite 37-26 (17-13)
One of the toughest tasks of the entire season was on the cards as our league women headed to Funen on Wednesday afternoon. Standing in their way were last season's Champions League finalists and reigning Danish champions Odense Håndbold.
Surprisingly, though, you wouldn't have guessed it from the scoreboard early on, which showed a stunning 4-0 lead for our favourites after just seven minutes. The hosts then got a better grip on things and went into the break ahead 17-13 – a performance that was more than worthy of our hard-fighting league women.
From the start of the second half, the home favourites pulled further ahead, but our players kept up the fight bravely all the way. At 30-23 with ten minutes to go, however, Odense Håndbold stepped on the gas even harder and ultimately wrapped up a comfortable 37-26 win.
Despite the defeat, there were plenty of strong and useful moments that can undoubtedly be carried forward to Saturday's important home game against HH Elite (Horsens). Goalkeeper Martina Thörn continued her impressive form from the win over Bjerringbro FH, while it was also great to see Clara Kvisgaard back on court in full flow and with several fine plays.
The HØJ Elite player of the match, however – for the second time this season, most recently against Team Esbjerg – was Matilde Dalbo, who delivered an outstanding performance on the wing. Seven goals from seven attempts says it all.
Head coach Kristian Kristensen says:
“Exactly as expected, we faced international opposition of the very highest calibre. But all in all we held our own well and produced several fine moments along the way – not least the opening of the match. Huge praise to Odense Håndbold for an impressive atmosphere.”
Now an important home game awaits on Saturday afternoon against HH Elite (Horsens). Tickets can be bought as always via billetsalg.dk/høj.
