CUP THRILLER IN KØGE – THROUGH TO THE LAST 16

Around 1000 spectators – including plenty from the HØJ family – had made their way to Spar Nord Arena as our Liga men were invited to dance by Køge Håndbold in the 6th round of the cup tournament.
It turned out to be a pretty tricky task, one that thankfully ended happily – seen through HØJ eyes.
The opening went completely according to plan, and several five-goal leads were registered on the scoreboard during the first half.
11-6 and 13-8 to the HØJ boys were good examples that everything seemed to be unfolding just as many of the spectators in attendance had expected beforehand.
Køge Håndbold, however, had completely different plans. After a formidable late surge in the first half, the hosts scored seven goals in a row and could head into the break leading 15-13.
In the second half we were still chasing, and when we suddenly found ourselves down by five, the worried frowns really started to set in – both in the away section and on the bench.
Fortunately, the players showed real character in the final quarter of the match. Pauli Jacobsen in goal served up several crucial saves, while Tobias Nielsen and Linus Arnesson managed to score into an empty net in the closing stages, helping to secure a narrow 30-28 win.
All the while backed brilliantly by the HØJ family, who did everything they could to support the team – and they really pulled it off.
A thousand thanks for the help – and big praise too to the energetic and well-playing Køge side, who delivered a fine performance on Friday evening.
