Big belief in the future – despite defeat on league debut

On Sunday afternoon the HØJ Elite women kicked off their league debut at Frederiksberg Hallerne against København Håndbold – and it turned out to be every bit as intense as expected.
Backed by nearly 1,000 spectators, the hosts got off to the better start, and before the clock had ticked past nine minutes Bo Spellerberg's side led 5-1.
The tough start didn't rattle our league women, though, and ten minutes later they had levelled it at 7-7.
After that København Håndbold pulled clear again with four goals in a row, and our favourites had to roll up their sleeves once more.
They managed it, and the scoreline was almost level again as the teams went to the break with the hosts holding a narrow 12-11 lead.
The first quarter of the second half was also a tight affair, and HØJ Elite even led a couple of times before København Håndbold pulled away in the closing stages to win 29-24.
For HØJ Elite, Emma Navne shone in particular, putting in a great game on her old home court. Seven goals and two assists were registered for our talented playmaker.
In goal, Emily Sando also delivered with several fine saves and even spiced up her performance with two goals.
Head coach Kristian Kristensen says:
"It was great to get the Bambuni Ligaen underway in a brilliant atmosphere at Frederiksberg Hallen. The many travelling HØJ fans helped create fantastic support.
In short, we actually came away feeling we could have taken points with a bit more cynicism in 'Crunch Time'. On the other hand, we also have to admit that the many missed chances over the final 16 minutes made life difficult for us.
Now we've had our baptism of fire as a group. And with positives in defence, we've taken the first step in our development, which gives hope and belief in the future."
The next task for our league women is Saturday's home game at Ølstykke-Hallen, where the opponents are Ringkøbing. That clash throws off at 3:00 PM.
