HØJ Elite has signed a two-year contract with Danish goalkeeping talent Mathilde Rømer, effective from the summer of 2026.

22-year-old Mathilde Rømer currently plays for Norway's Fredrikstad and has, among other things, been part of her handball upbringing at the youth academy at Ikast Håndbold.

Mathilde Rømer also brings experience from the Danish youth national teams, where she has taken part in several camps and was a member of the squad for the 2022 U20 World Championship.

This makes for a hugely exciting addition to the league women's already strong goalkeeping unit, and the upcoming signing is something the club's chairman, Helle Rasmussen, is delighted about as well.

“Mathilde is a big talent who, despite her young age, has already built up valuable international experience that will no doubt benefit us – both in the short and long term,” says Helle Rasmussen, adding:

“Mathilde is also a very communicative goalkeeper, she reads the game sharply and is strong under pressure. Those are qualities that fit in really well with us.”

Looking forward to becoming part of the HØJ family Mathilde Rømer herself is looking forward to her new chapter at HØJ Elite with great anticipation.

“I chose HØJ Elite because it feels like the right place for me to continue my development. HØJ Elite is an environment with a clear culture of striving for the best, both individually and as a community, which is something I thrive in.

After four years in the Norwegian league, I'm looking forward to coming home and testing myself in the Danish league. As a Ringsted girl, it's magical to come home to top handball on Zealand,” and Mathilde Rømer adds:

“My expectations for HØJ are to become part of an environment where I can both contribute and be challenged. I expect a good culture where we can make each other better both on and off the court. On top of that, I'm looking forward to working with skilled players and coaches who can help me take the next steps in my career.

I'm incredibly excited to meet the girls, the whole staff and all the fans. In general, I'm looking forward to becoming part of the HØJ family,” Mathilde Rømer concludes.

Mathilde began her handball career at her childhood club TMS Ringsted, continued in the youth ranks at Ajax, then moved on to Ikast Håndbold and Molde in Norway, before now playing for Fredrikstad.

This summer she'll pull on the HØJ Elite shirt – and we're really looking forward to the partnership.
